Longevity and Aging in My family

Instructions: This assignment is divided into three units. Each unit will require a separate cover page. The first unit will focus on student interactions with older adult relatives; the emphasis of the second unit is placed on the life expectancy of various cultural/ethnic groups; the third unit involves the longevity game; the student discusses his/her personal life expectancy and interventions/strategies for developing a quality lifestyle. Submit the Form for Major Assignments.

UNIT I

The responses to the content below should be prepared in an essay/narrative format. The assignment should not exceed 1-2 pages in length. No introduction or abstract is required. You may write in the first person. Headings are required for the assignment.

  • On the maternal side of your family identify your older living relatives. Identify specifically those who are 70+ years old. What do they routinely enjoy doing? Describe their quality of life? How often do you interact with older adults on the maternal side of your family/
  • On the paternal side of your family identify your older living relatives. Identify specifically those who are 70+ years old. What do they routinely enjoy doing? Describe their quality of life? How often do you interact with older adults on the paternal side of your family?
  • What advice would older adults from the maternal or paternal side give you? How do you plan to improve your interaction with older adult family members? Be specific and provide examples.
  • UNIT II

    Complete the following assignment-The Longevity Game (at least 2 paragraphs).

    and follow the instructions on the website. This will provide you with an

    “estimated” life expectancy considering your current age, gender, race and

    ethnicity, family history, and lifestyle. Please make sure that you have a flash

    player on your computer or labtop.

    Record your life expectancy age and answer the following questions:

    1. What lifestyle factors are associated with either long life or short life? What changes, if any, might you consider to improve your quality or quantity of life?

    2. Looking at life expectancy, what things have you done or NOT done to prepare to live into old age? What planning or changes are necessary for you at this time in order for you to accommodate your own aging?

    3. What have you taken away from this experience? (What did you learn?)
