The final examination (25% of the course grade) for this class will be in the form of a 7-10-page research paper .For this research, analysis, and writing assignment you will write a final term paper constructed around primary source documents on a research question of your choice. With this paper, you will demonstrate your ability to perform basic research, use primary sources as a foundation for that research, draw reasoned conclusions, and discuss your findings in a well written essay.
Students will prepare a paper that discusses, in detail, a topic they choose from the period ca 3000BCE to 1500CE. The segment due dates are listed below. The paper should be a minimum of 7 pages in length not including the title page, footnotes, or bibliography. Papers that are less than seven full pages will be considered incomplete and graded accordingly. Papers should be double-spaced, use standard 1 inch side, top and bottom margins with a 12 point font. Pages should be numbered.
The final paper must include a minimum of seven sources including at least three primary sources and two articles from scholarly journals. You may also use up to two website sources, but be sure and exercise due caution when using Internet material. Papers are graded on the basis of a clear thesis, the use of timely and reliable research, effective paper and paragraph organization, a persuasive argument, effective use of appropriate evidence to support your argument, accuracy and clarity of expression.
Papers are graded on form as well as content. Spelling, grammar, punctuation and syntax errors will result in a lower grade.
