I have stated that disunion was a failure of not only our national dialogue, but also a failure of our federal government at the highest level. Do you agree with this statement? What evidence would you use to make your case?
This is an exercise in critical thinking and a good self-assessment to see if you are “connecting the dots” and thinking historically. Answer the question in ONE well-constructed paragraph (4-5 sentences). Paragraphs should begin with a thesis statement (1st sentence). Subsequent sentences should present historical facts with your analysis (how do these facts support your thesis statement in response to the prompt). Grammar and mechanics count and don’t forget to cite as necessary.
The format for a one paragraph response is the following:
At least ONE piece of evidence should be drawn from a primary source. TWO or more pieces of evidence from primary sources shows an excellent level of use. Don’t forget to cite!
You must have solid evidence for each point you raise in the thesis. Evidence is not simply a statement, there must be an explanation of how that evidence supports the thesis statement
Did you use the minimum number of primary sources? secondary sources?
Have you properly cited? Have you used Turabian/Chicago? You must also FOOTNOTE. Parenthetical cites are NOT allowed.
Is your argument clear and does it make sense? Is it historically accurate? Does your evidence prove your point? Does your analysis answer the prompt? Have you considered change over time and geographic differences in your essay?
