This paper involves three parts. First, provide a brief review of Asturias’ The President. Next, connect your review of The Presidentto key areas from chapter seven in our Comparative Politics textbook. Finally, after identifying key characteristics of the president’s governmental style and the effects it has had on the population described in The President, select a country that that has a similar governmental system, structure and style as depicted in the book.

The first part, your brief review, can describe areas like the setting, characters and their role in The President, and also demonstrate how the president and the state determine each citizen’s life and the country overall. Pay particular attention to the president’s leadership style as well as how that affects individual citizens and the country.

The second part should connect to key areas and definitions from chapter seven on authoritarian regimes and democratic breakdown in our Comparative Politics textbook. Consider the state and its political representation in The President. What connections can you draw to the chapter? Consider domestic (internal) politics as well as foreign policy (external) and relations with other countries.

The third part should identify a country that you have determined has a similar governmental system, structure and style as the country depicted in the book. Provide a brief overview of the country while sharing how The President’s country and the current country are similar.

Your review should provide two to three quotes from The President (pages cited) and two to three quotes from chapter 7 of Comparative Politics to support your review. Papers should be approximately 5-7 pages in length and incorporate Chicago Manual of Style for citation.
