What is the inciting incident of chinatown – in your opinion? recognition and reversal? What colors are really important in chinatown? What objects are important/repetitive? What words/lines resonate? What 3 themes/emotions reign over the arc of chinatown

The Film is called chinatown this is a production essay take the questions and answeres provided and make it a essay thats pretty much it .

1. What is the inciting incident of chinatown – in your opinion? recognition and reversal?

In my opinion, the inciting incident happened when the audience found out who the real Mrs. Mulwray is. That scene was the “hook” of the film which made the audience automatically drawn to Chinatown. The recognition and reversal happened when the audience found out that Mrs. Mulwray got raped by her father and had his child. This moment was therefore unexpected and cathartic right before it came to an end.

2. What colors are really important in chinatown?

The colors that are important in Chinatown are dark colors such as black, brown or tan. One color that particularly stands out in the movie is red, which is mostly used on the female protagonist (which also essentially symbolizes romance/sexual appeal). The characters wear black, brown, tan or grey because what they wear corresponds with the movie and its genre.

3. What objects are important/repetitive?

Cigarette (lighting a cigarette) because it represents sexual relations.

Venetian blinds because it emphasizes imprisonment or being trapped.

The bandage on Jake’s nose because it symbolizes his courage/heroism in the film.

4. What words/lines resonate?

“Forget it Jake, it’s Chinatown.” Those words resonate because firstly, it’s the title of the movie. Secondly, Jake had past experiences in Chinatown that were troublesome. This goes to say that if somebody died in Chinatown, it wouldn’t matter because there’s a language barrier and a different sort of community which draws the law.

5. What 3 themes/emotions reign over the arc of chinatown?

Corruption, cynicism, mystery.
