This is a research paper about Lao Tzu. Please help me improve this paper, please add more source. Thank you. Lao Tzu meaning an old master by his real name Lazio was an ancient Chinese writer and philosopher. He is credited for founding his philosophical Taoism which advocated for the recognition and adherence to the forces of nature in everything, he also authored “Tao Te Ching” that was a fundamental text that influenced a lot of philosophies across China and East Asia in general. Further Lazio was a central figure and a deity in the Chinese religion and Taoism and used a lot of analogy, symmetry and paradox in his works to sharpen the brains of his readers and drive his point’s home. (Watson 1967)

In this paper we are going to focus on Lao Tzu’s analytical thoughts portrayed in his philosophies. On his book of the way “Tao Te Ching” he explains that the ways of virtues lies in his respect for the force of nature that is universal and simplicity, this universal force of nature is called Tao. According to Taoism, it points out that all human beings are naturally good, but they are corroded by the established rules of a place and the belief they should show in the society. Tao further suggests that everyone should obey the free flow of the universe. Tao is the mysterious way that all things happen in the universe and is characterized by a ton of virtues that guides the people who practice it like being humble, generous, peaceful, non-judgmental, flexible and many times brings success in life for those who belief.( Tzu 1963)

In Tao Te Ching, Lazio further states that it’s wrong to praise and made a big deal out of a successful person in the community as it promotes competition and war for success as everyone want to become a big deal, he also stated that it is not right to call the things that are rare to find valuables since it can promote scramble for those rare resources which could bring about theft, He further stated that the Tao is always empty yet it’s the source of all things implying that it has a way with everything. Nobody knows the age of Tao since its old than everybody even the ancient jade emperor who was believed to the ultimate god in ancient China.

Lazio argues that the distance between earth and heaven is like the bellows used by the blacksmiths to blow the air to the fire meaning that even if the distance space in between seem so empty, it always fan the flames for creation. He stressed that there is nothing more to explain the failure than silence. In Lazio’s book, the mysterious woman was stressed that he believed that the power of women should be recognized because all life came from it. To achieve ones goals on earth one must put others first and learn to live on another as the heaven and earth leave together eternally because they don’t think of themselves. (Watson 1967)

Lazio compares Tao with the water, he says that water is control everything that is within its control, reflects everything, it totally adapts to fit the environment, it has a good timing which implies that it does everything at the right time and finally it gives in kindness. Lazio compares all this qualities of the water to those of Tao or the power of the universe. Tao Te Ching further writes about an overfilled cup which means that too much of anything is always poisonous, It will be filled with excessive cups and excessive sharpened knife are compared, finally cutting the people who use it or become very thin and broken. He further said that many valuable things in the house can attract thieves into the house, even the power and excess wealth, which makes people very arrogant.

Emptiness is considered as very necessary for very many things to happen, Lazio gives the example of a container which must be empty in order to contain something, he goes ahead to give an example of a room which must have emptiness to exist. Lazio further warns against overstimulation of anything as it could lead to loosing the meaning, he quotes that a lot of sounds makes us deaf, a lot of flavors leads to lose of taste and a lot of colors blinds our eyes, the writer warns that “racing” and “hunting” drives people crazy which basically means that being over competitive in anything and being in constant search of something is always a bad idea as it leads to one being hurt. In addition he stated that people take care of the stomach not the eye meaning that they care about the worldly thing they can see with their eyes other than for finding the sense of well being. ( Mair 2012)

Lao Tzu in the book of Tae Te Ching goes ahead and writes that one should never get obsessed with what other people perceive them as people will always have good and bad opinions which may cause constant fear if we listen to everything that is said. He continues to say that the greatest misfortune could be one self if one is too much wrapped to himself, he stated that one should value himself the way he values everything else in the world, he further said that people who could be entrusted with the world are those who value themselves the same way they value the world.

Tao is not seen, heard or felt because it is metaphysical or it only exist in spiritual form but everyone should try and attune to it since it makes up everything that can be seen, despite Lao being ancient its wisdom should be applied to modern day lives. The qualities of a good Tao believer are described as careful and cautious, open minded, simple and genuine and serious among many others that were written by Lazio. Many people have translated his philosophies in different ways and meaning but no one is more correct than the ethers.

In order to align ourselves with Tao we should empty ourselves from everything that is happening around us, when we stop seeing everything we finally get true peace and tranquility which returns us in our true nature. Lazio stated that we should always know that we are a part of a larger natural flow that is always constant and when we get disconnected from this flow terrible things are bound to happen, to be aligned with the eternal Tao one must leave the self.

In Lao Tzu’s analytical thinking on the qualities of a good ruler he states that a good ruler should be very good in whatever he does, he should always have trust in himself, he should be careful with his words and do all things in a calm way. When rulers begin to work under pressure and fear, they begin to fall; they are despised and incompetent, unable to rule their country, and a good ruler does everything in a natural way. If people would reduce their lust for profit and stop being cunning we cannot have thieves and bandits and if we stop compassing and benevolence we would increase charity.

The desire and obsession with knowledge can cause fear. He further wrote that when a leaf is bent, does not mean that it will never rise, teach people don’t argue, don’t bend, when the end of the argument, they will again, because knowledge of the people should not make a parade of his knowledge and let people see them for the great people are very smart, they will not they boast how great, and this is their awesome. If one doesn’t fight with the world, the world will not fight with you.

The Tao Te Ching writes that people should not talk too many words that are meaningless rather speak a few words that say a lot. The book further explains that it is better to do things in short bursts that have great impact like the wind and the rain that do not last very long. Moreover one becomes whatever you set in your mind, this book explains that is one set his mind and focus on the virtues then the virtues is with them and when one sets his focus on the Tao they are with the Tao. Finally the book writes on the dangers of arrogance and gives an example of “those who are on tiptoes cannot stand” meaning that if one tries to stand tall that everyone will not last long and will definitely fall.

In conclusion Lao Tzu analytical thinking is encompassed with a lot of metaphors, symmetry, analogy, paradox among other writing styles to pass down wisdom from this great writer, Tao has been well put out as the mysterious way that all things happen in the universe and is characterized by a ton of virtues that guides the people who practice it like being humble, generous, peaceful, non-judgmental, flexible and many times brings success in life for those who belief.
