Professor and Class,
World War 1 can be deemed the first “total” war because it was the first time in recorded history where warfare brought forth global tragedy. Populations from German, British, French, and Belgian regions were affected long before the United States was involved in 1917 (Becker, 2015). Even countries that attempted to be neutral during this violent time were still involved by providing food, supplies and weapons to war-torn areas.
After reading our assigned chapters and this week’s lesson, it became clear to me that it could not have been easy for nations to pick up the pieces and resume a normal life. Trust in different nations were no doubt questioned. For example, this week’s lesson mentioned how President Woodrow Wilson had to break his promise to keep America out of war when he sent two million troops to help defeat Germany (Chamberlain College of Nursing, 2018). I am sure that many family members during this difficult time struggled to move on after losing resources, loved ones, and loyalties.
