Seminor 1 unit 1

Attending live Seminars is important to your academic success, and attendance is highly recommended. The Seminar allows you to review the important concepts presented in each unit, discuss work issues in your lives that pertain to these concepts, ask your instructor questions, and allow you to come together in real time with your fellow classmates. There will be a graded Seminar in Units 1 through 9 in this course. You must either attend the live Seminar or complete the alternative assignment in order to earn points for this part of the class.

Option 1- Attend Seminar:

In the Unit 1 Seminar, you will get an overview of the course content and learn about the Assignments and grading for the course. Then, you will participate in a facilitated discussion to help you get acquainted with the basic concepts in sociology. This Seminar will also give you and your classmates an opportunity to practice applying the sociological theories to everyday interactions.

Questions to facilitate Seminar interaction:

  • What is the sociological perspective?
  • How can you use your sociological imagination to see the same everyday interactions from three different theoretical perspectives?
  • What are the basics of sociological investigation?

Option 2- Alternative Assignment:

You will benefit most from attending the graded Seminar as an active participant. However, if you are unable to attend you have the opportunity to make up the points by completing the alternative assignment.

First, review the Unit 1 Seminar archive. Use the Seminar Guide in Kaplan Academic Tools to find out how to access Seminar archives. Then, respond to these Discussion topics in a Word Document of about 250–300 words. Your paper should be in APA format and you should cite all references used. Submit the Word document in the Unit 1 Seminar Dropbox.

  3. Why is it important to apply theory to real life examples?

To earn Seminar credit for this unit, complete one of the following:
