Barry Stroud makes an interesting case, that holds the ideas that our reality is merely made up of our own perceptions, which we receive from our senses. Stroud uses the example of a man who finds himself locked in a room full of TVs. This man, based on what his senses have picked up and his perceptions of those senses, would determine that that room is reality, and that there is nothing beyond what he is seeing. Stroud’s theory begs the question of how anyone can determine what is really going on in the outside world, in other words, how can one determine that the reality they perceive is true. I do believe that it is possible to know that this reality is in fact real. Its not like every person on earth is all in the same “dream”, so to speak. Let’s say you and a friend are walking through the mall. All of the sudden a fight breaks out and you and your friend both see it happen. In this instance reality can be confirmed, because you are not relying solely on your own perceptions. If you ask your friend “did you see that” they will confirm the reality because they did in fact see the same reality that you did.
