The components are the patient, environment, health, and nurse. The patient refers to the patient as well as their family and social connections. The environment is the internal and external influences such as the culture, economic conditions, geographic locations, and interactions with friends and family. According to Dupree (2018), a person can modify environmental factors and in turn improve their health status. The health component addresses their access to health care and wellness and influence their entire well-being. Lastly, the nursing is the actual delivery of care. The nurse is responsible for carrying out their duties and evaluates the other metaparadigms to ensure that the patient is being taken care of as a whole and is receiving the highest level of care that focuses on their overall well-being. Theories are also a big part of nursing. Swanson developed a theory of caring which links the nurse’s attitude, informed understandings, message conveyed, therapeutic actions, and intended outcomes. She described nursing as the informed caring for the well-being of others (Butts & Rich, 2017, p. 138). This relates to all areas of nursing, but in my personal career I feel like caring is one attribute that is most important to me. I am always concerned with making sure my patients know that I care for them as a whole. I always make sure that I am aware of any barriers when they discharge that might hinder their healing. I make sure that I am aware of any changes in a patient’s demeanor and try my best to assist them in overcoming obstacles.Butts, J. B., & Rich, K. L. LWWPeer 2The four metaparadigms in nursing are patient, nurse, health and environment (The College of New Jersey, n.d.).  Patients are viewed as open energy fields with experiences that are unique to each individual (The College of New Jersey, n.d.).  In nursing patients are extremely valued and the goal for them is to make informed choices in their healthcare so they can be their own advocate along with the nurse.  Nurses are thought to be an open system so they can always adapt to their environment and meet the needs of the challenges that arise around them (The College of New Jersey, n.d.).  The environment is the landscape where social interaction happens, and it is the playing field where nurses interact with their clients and create meaningful relationships (The College of New Jersey, n.d.).  Health includes both wellness and illness and it is shaped by the perception of the patient over their life (The College of New Jersey, n.d.).In my current area of nursing practice, I am always striving to learn new things in my environment.  A theory that recognizes this idea is the cognitive learning theory.  This theory focuses on the perceptions, thinking, reasoning, and processing of information that occur within the learner (Butts & Rich, 2017).  This statement applies to my current nursing practice because these topics are used every single day.  I have to think and reason when making clinical decisions and that information is processed by me in my own unique way.  According to this theory it is important to set realistic goals because it will result in better decision making (Butts & Rich, 2017).  An example that this can apply to is when you are treating an individual with chronic pain.  If my expectation is to rid the person of this pain during my shift that they have been experiencing their whole life, I will likely fail.  But, if an individual goes into this situation and has the mindset of making the patient as comfortable as they possibly can with pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapy, they have a realistic goal they can work towards.ReferencesButts, J., & Rich, K.
