To achieve maximum points for content and analysis, the following elements need to be thoroughly addressed.

  • Discuss complications of using this terminology in various settings.
  • Examine the challenges presented in diagnosing the co-occurring disordered client.
  • Explore the psychopathology and associated drugs of choice referenced in Chapter 25.
  • Look at the problems associated with this population and the various treatment approaches used.
  • Provide at least two sources. Citations to the dictionary should be provided on top of the required two sources. The Bible should not be listed in the References page, but does have to be cited in-text.
  • Use the Paper Writing rubric provided in the syllabus to ensure you have met all of the criteria.

Learning Activity #3: Gender Differences in Substance Use Response

Read Chapter 18 of your Doweiko textbook to gain a perspective of the differences among genders as related to chemical abuse.

Locate one scholarly article on the Internet about how gender affects the rehabilitation process and the special issues arising from this. Write a one-page response that discusses how the content of the article lines up with the material found in the text.

Objective 3: Appraise the various “special populations” associated with substance abuse and factors influencing their abuse and treatment.

Often people will formulate a stereotype of what a person with a substance use disorder looks like or does, but the disorder has many faces. We cannot overlook the substance use struggles in such populations as the elderly, the homeless, the disabled, homosexuals, and ethnic minorities. We must be aware of the various portions of our population who are at risk, their problems, and the additional barriers to treatment they face.

below:

  • Locate one scholarly article on the Internet about homosexuals in treatment for substance use disorders.
  • Read Chapter 19 (Hidden Faces of Substance Use Disorder) of your Doweiko textbook to gain insight into the various “special populations” within the substance abuse treatment field. Then follow the instructions Locate one scholarly article on the Internet about another “special population” in treatment for substance use disorders.

Learning Activity #4: Special Populations in Substance Use Response

Write a 1-2 page response that discusses how the content of the articles compares to the material found in the text.
