Middle Childhood Application Assignment

  • Select one of the following criteria that interests you:
  • Research it.
  • Either create a child from your imagination or you can speak about a child you know or have worked with who has the disorder you have selected. If you are discussing a child who you have worked with please do not use any identifying information. If you are creating a child, you can give them a name/ family etc. Please make sure this child is middle age childhood (9-11 years old).
  • Discuss how this disorder impacts the child 1) Socially/ emotionally 2) Physically 3) Cognitively
  • Follow this format:
  • Autism
  • Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
  • Retts Syndrome
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • Cerebal Palsy
  • Birth Asphyxia
  • Downsyndrome
  • Turner’s Syndrome
  • Other (please verify any other choices with the instructor)
  • Introduction- ½ -1 page: You will introduce your client here and provide a brief overview: Name/ age/ family/ disorder
  • Social/ Emotional Development: 1-2 pages in length. Here you will discuss how this disorder has impacted social/ emotional development of the child. Example: peer/ family relationships. Self-esteem/ emotional connections etc.
  • Physical Development- 1-2 pages: Here you will talk about how the disorder has impacted the child’s physical development. Example growth/ physical abilities
  • Cognitive Development- 1-2 pages- Here you will discuss the cognitive development. Example- level of functioning
  • Conclusion ½-1 page- Summarize your paper, key points of the discussion.
