Protestant Baroque art style

1. Protestant Baroque art style contains six basic characteristics. As explained in class, explain and define each characteristic in your own words:

-Domesticity / Everyday home life activities

-Humility

-Conservative / Sobering values

-Middle class / Moderation

-Love of Life

-Religious Sensibilities

2. For this assignment, you must analyze:

A. One painting by Johannes Vermeer

B. One painting by Rembrandt van Rijn

C. One painting by Pieter de Hooch

D. One painting by Frans Hals

Your analysis must include:

-The painting techniques you learned from the Renaissance.

-The Protestant Baroque characteristics you defined above by showing how and where those characteristics appear in the art works.

-If the art work refers to a biblical story, then you must provide the book, chapter, and verse with a short summary of the story.

You are not allowed to choose art works discussed in class.

Your answers must be written in your own words and you must cite your sources.
