A. Research Topic

Choose from one of the following areas:

  1. Emotional Intelligence – your research paper should include the following:
  • a. Research companies that use emotional intelligence testing.
  • b. Define and discuss the theory and how it is used in management.
  • c. Explain thoroughly the elements of emotional intelligence.
  • d. Explain how emotional intelligence can be used to turn managers into leaders.

2. Adaptive Organizations – Your research paper should include:

  • I. Go to list of companies and choose ONE to research.
  • i.Define and explain the elements of an adaptive organization structure.
  • ii.Discuss why the company you chose is adaptive.
  • II. Using the information you learned from your research in #2 above, explain the relationship between adaptive organizations by using the information from the company you researched in

3. Organizational Decision Making – Your paper should include the following:

  • a. Do an internet research to find companies that make the best decisions.
  • b. Choose one of the companies to research.
  • c. Identify the various aspects of the organizational decision making process and present a rationale that discusses how organizations affect human behavior (positive or negative) in the workplace through:
  • I. Team building
  • II. Employee performance
  • III. Conflict management
  • IV. Representing cultural values and attitudes

B. Research Paper Requirements

  • 1. Have at least 3 references gathered from books, internet, magazines, etc. I expect a variety of resources – not just the internet or the textbook! Your paper will be graded with this in mind.
  • 2. Created in a word processor program such as MSWord, MSWorks, or OpenOffice (OpenOffice is a free software suite that you can download at OpenOffice.org that can be read in MSWord)
  • 3. Formatted in APA Style format. You can find help with formatting with examples at the following website. APA Style
  • 4. Must be checked for spelling and grammar errors.
  • 5. Have at least 3 pages, but no more than 7 double-spaced pages.

D. Grading

  • 1. Final papers and Extra Credit may be turned in NO LATER THAN 3pm ON THE LAST DAY OF CLASS.
  • 2. I have attached a link to the Final Paper Grading Rubric (see above). This rubric is designed to help you understand what I expect in your final paper and establish an equitable method for grading your paper. Please review the Grading Rubric and feel free to ask any questions that you may have.
  • 3. Remember to post ANY questions in the Q & A section of the Discussion area so that everyone can take advantage of what you learn.

E. Extra Credit!!! (OPTIONAL)

Assume that you must make a presentation to executives in an organization. Turn your research findings from your final paper into a PowerPoint presentation (see link to a sample presentation above) and you will receive 40 additional extra credit points. These points will be added to your final paper grade and will help you if you are not doing so well on the weekly quizzes. Your presentation should contain the following:

  • At least 8 slides including title and reference slides.
  • Use bulleted points that describe the main research points of your paper.
  • The inclusion of graphics will can make presentation more interesting.
  • Be spelling and grammar checked.
