RE: Define “VI” schedule. Do you think you’ve encountered an real life examples?

Reinforcement after an average amount of time, behavior changes more slowly. Reinforcement is dependent on first response, emitted after an average amount of time has elapsed but interval varies from trial to trial. One of the most obvious examples that I encountered would be with checking email sporadically throughout the day instead of checking every time message is received. We never know when we are going to receive a message. Therefore, emails roll in randomly at completely unpredictable times. When I check and see that I have received a message, it acts as a reinforcer for checking email.
