Empathy-Altruism Hypothesis in Popular Media (Critical Role)

Another foray into the age-old question of “selflessness vs. selfishness” and whether or not there is such a thing as a “selfless good deed” – but this time using characters from more modern Popular Media and analyzing their actions and behavior to attempt to suggest their motivations when it comes to helping others.

Specifically, using the main characters from the second campaign of Critical Role (Fjord, Beauregard, Caleb, Nott, Jester, Mollymauk, and Yasha), for each character suggest which form of altruism the character is most likely to practice (Empathy-altruism, Empathy-joy, Social exchange theory, a mix of these, or some other form of altruism) along with why (please include an example such as an action the character took, an internal conflict shared with the audience, or a revealing conversation between characters).

Finally, based on these observations, in your opinion (additional supporting evidence/reasoning optional): regardless of form of altruism, which character(s) do you believe would be most likely to push the team to make the biggest contributions to helping others outside of the group? Which character(s) do you believe would readily sacrifice the others to benefit the group? Which character(s) do you believe would readily sacrifice the group for themselves? Would any character die for another in group (if so, who?)
