Developmental assessment of the children and adolescents is important as it enables the parents of the children to monitor the growth of their children. When there is a developmental delay, or they encounter any problem, it will be easier to report to the healthcare providers early (Charlesworth, 2013). Also, the families will be able to use the recommended tools to monitor development, and therefore it will be critical to notice any development problems with their children. The health care providers will, in the long run, refer the children to support services in the community of some special schools that will help them in their development.

The important components used for the assessment of 5-year-olds depending on the categories that are to be assessed. The categories may include adaptive behavior where components such as the Adaptive Behavior Assessment System and the Childhood Autism Rating Scale among others (Charlesworth, 2013). For the cognitive category, tools such as the Differential Ability Scale can be useful. Lastly, in the communication category, tools such as the Expressive Vocabulary test can be used.

Different tools can be used effectively in assessing some of the skills in 5-year-olds. The tools are different and are meant for assessing specific skills in children. Others have the ability to improve the skills in the children effectively more than the others. However, some children may experience problems with these skills in their childhood, and therefore it is essential for the skills to be assessed using components such as the Gross Motor Function Measure, the Peabody Developmental Motor Scales and the Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory. Furthermore, different tools can be used for the assessment of communication skills in children, and they include the Test for semantic skills, Test for Word Finding and the Clinical Assessment of Articulation and Phonology (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015). A 5-year-old child can be presumed to have started going to school or nearing to start going to school. Some of the components that can be used to test for pre-education skills include Basic School Skills Inventory, Test for Reading Ability, Test for Mathematics Ability and Test for early Written Language Ability.

The main components that are used in the assessment of the well-being and biological functioning of pediatric patients include the weight, height, the circumference of the head and the blood pressure. Also, components such as the physical examination of the head, abdomen, skin and neurological development are essential in assessing the well being and biological information of a pediatric patient. Other components include blood tests for diseases such as anemia, the hearing abilities of the patients, vision and the mental health assessment (Bhutta & Black, 2013).

All these points are essential in providing the primary health care services such and the physical and the mental to the children. Generally, the health of a child depends on these components that are used in the examination of the well-being and biological examination of pediatric patients. Meeting the criteria of all the components above will guarantee that a child is of sound physical and mental health.
