Write a 4-5-paragraph analysis of one of the books you have been reading this semester

If you read a narrative:

Describe characters, plot, theme, contrary, and include at least two quotes that the author uses to develop the tension in the story along with your explanation of how these excerpts add to the story’s tension (cite page numbers in MLA format, see p. 409 in your EDW).

If you read a non-fiction/informative/persuasive book:

Tell the main idea (thesis) of book along with the main claims used to support the thesis. Discuss how well the author uses facts to inform or persuade the audience, citing at least two examples from the text using APA format.

When evaluating your summary, I will be looking for the following:

1. Does the author show clear awareness of the story components and how they relate to a larger theme (narratives)?
2. Does the author show clear awareness of the book’s main ideas and facts used to support these ideas (informative/persuasive)?
3. Can the author clearly differentiate between effective vs. ineffective use of evidence?
4. Can the author clearly differentiate between effective vs. ineffective narrative tactics?
5. Is the summary well-organized, including a thesis, topic sentences and PIE?
