Please analyze the representative passages on p12-16 of Reading Materials, which offer examples of some of the more common logics, in the context of ‘coherence’ and ‘transitions’. What makes our communications cohere (hang together) is the underpinning logic of whatever thought processes are engaged – thought processes made visible by signal words (including transition words).
The handwritten ‘headlines’ above each passage announce the ‘primary’ logic immediately identifiable. Answer the 10 questions posed. Some of the questions ask you to identify the secondary logic also at work in organizing and presenting the idea. Others ask you to list the visible ‘signal’ words that reveal the primary underpinning logic. Still others ask you to identify the premise and where it’s located (at the beginning would be the ‘deductive’ approach; at the end, the ‘inductive’ approach). !!!Write simple short answer responses to the 10 questions.!!!!
